Future Goals and Interests

Smart Tampere strategic development programme has been a significant investment to Smart City development during 2017–2021. The program consists of three key elements:

  • Smart Tampere Ecosystem programme promotes companies’ business renewal and growth by advancing the development of business ecosystems around selected themes. The aim is to create the best possible prerequisites for companies to network and create new solutions to the needs of the city and its residents.
  • Smart Tampere Digitalization programme is to digitalize the services of the City of Tampere by 2025. Tampere aims to make everyday life easier and offer services that can be used regardless of place and time. However, it is not just deploying new technology, we are also looking to do our work in a smarter way – by embedding service design within the city’s big ICT projects and encouraging personnel to make an impact by developing their work by experiments.
  • Sustainability programme is particularly aimed at reducing emissions from urban planning, housing, mobility, energy and consumption. Tampere aims to be carbon neutral by 2030. The city’s climate actions have been compiled into the Carbon Neutral Tampere 2030 Roadmap. The roadmap includes 236 actions under six themes: urban planning, mobility, construction, energy, consumption and nature. The City Board approved the roadmap on August 31, 2020.
