In 2010, "Kallikratis", combined the rich written literary tradition and history of Vari with the beauty of the garden-city that is Voula and the unique natural beauty of Vouliagmeni. These three municipalities created what might be the most beautiful city in Greece, City of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni (CoVVV).
CoVVV's vision is to be the first truly smart, green and sustainable city in Greece within the next 4 years by implementing citizen-centric solutions that embrace common logic, experience and knowledge, based on international standards.
CoVVV has already implemented a number of “smart” initiatives in the fields of sustainable resource management, digital governance, “smart” mobility, and smart living. Overall, the mandate for CoVVV is to invest in innovative and sustainable solutions to promote economic, social and environmentally sustainable developments.
CoVVV aims to provide the inspiring and aspiring people of the city the opportunity to facilitate collaboration, share data and do things more effectively together, instead of working separately.
There is a need to connect citizens, local businesses and governance structures and to ensure that all citizens and enterprises have the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge-based networked economy and infrastructure.
The realisation of the smart city’s vision requires the setting of some ground rules for the new advanced solutions: all of them have to be eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and sustainable, without inhibiting people’s comfort and well-being.
Consequently, there is a high urgency and top priority for MoVVV to scale up renewable energy solutions in the city and further enable the establishment of a holistic, eco-friendly waste management system.
